"The Future of Drug Safety: Promoting and Protecting the Health of the Public": FasterCures and the National Health Council hosted a gathering of patient and medical research advocates to discuss the Institute of Medicine (IOM) report "The Future of Drug Safety: Promoting and Protecting the Health of the Public." Invited speakers included Sheila Burke, the IOM Committee Chair and Kathleen Stratton, the IOM Study Director.

"Clinical Trials Recruitment and Retention: Best Practices and Promising Approaches" (September 15, 2006): FasterCures brought together an unusual mixture of people from various viewpoints and disease groups for a conference, "Clinical Trials Recruitment and Retention: Best Practices and Promising Approaches," to focus not on the many challenges, but on the solutions that already show potential to break down the barriers to filling clinical trials. The event was part of our Patients Helping Doctors (PHD) Program, which highlights the critical role patients can play in the search for cures and to give them the information they need to get involved.

"Ensuring the Inclusion of Clinical Research in the National Health Information Network" (May, 2006): FasterCures, the NIH's National Center for Research Resources (NCRR), and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) hosted an expert meeting to discuss what a research-inclusive National Health Information Network (NHIN) would look like and to create a plan for getting there.

"Investing in Innovation: Accelerating Disease Research Through Philanthropy and Business" (November and December 2005): FasterCures hosted a meeting in Palm Springs which brought innovative disease research groups together with entrepreneurial philanthropists. A second meeting in New York City aimed to create relationships between the nonprofits and the business and investment community.
