Nationwide Health Information Network (NHIN)
Research Will Benefit from the "Networks of Networks"
The development of the Nationwide Health Information Network (NHIN) by the federal government and private sector partners is a major endeavor to carry the U.S. healthcare system into a new "networked" era of medicine. By managing vast amounts of medical information, NHIN is expected to allow secure exchange between consumers and healthcare providers. Among its goals is to improve healthcare quality.
But to serve researchers – and enable them to seek new cures from the richness of gathered data – the NHIN must also encompass genetic and other molecular information.
FasterCures is therefore collaborating with thought leaders from industry, government, and academic research communities to ensure that research needs are rapidly incorporated into the structure and function of the NHIN, from the start.
