FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - Sept. 15, 2015
WASHINGTON, DC – FasterCures is pleased by President Obama’s nomination of Dr. Robert Califf as the next commissioner of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). With his deep experience in the development and testing of new drugs, his longtime leadership in the field of translational science and his pioneering efforts to innovate the design and efficiency of clinical trials, he brings to the post a thorough understanding of the opportunities and pressures across the full continuum of medical product development.
“Rob understands that getting new medical products from discovery to patients requires all sectors—academia, industry, government, clinical care, nonprofits and patients — to work together throughout the research and development process,” said Margaret Anderson, executive director of FasterCures. “His steadfast commitment to integrating patients’ perspectives into regulatory decision-making is to be commended, and we look forward to the agency’s continued focus on patient engagement under his leadership.”
FasterCures salutes the many contributions Dr. Califf has made to the field of medical research over his illustrious 30-year career in academia, and looks forward to working with him in this new role.
