Ernest Bates is a board-certified neurosurgeon, and Chairman and CEO of the American Shared Hospital Services, which he founded. American Shared Hospital Services is a publicly traded health care company providing services to hospitals in 22 states. He received the Kjakan Award for his contribution to the spirit of Entrepreneurial Capitalism. Bates is a member of the Board of Trustees of University of Rochester and is an Emeritus Trustee of Johns Hopkins University. He is also on the Board of Overseers at UCSF School of Nursing, a member of The California High-Speed Rail Authority and the Brookings Institution. Bates earned his M.D. at the University of Rochester School of Medicine.
